Actually there is a small battery for the BIOS and internal clock uses... Depends on what battery Dell used it is usually a round silver metal from which is similar to a watch battery... If this is you are talking about.. If it is on the board you can't miss it..

the battery is never on the motherboard.
The battery is located om the bottom or the back side of the laptop

No, there is a separate compartment for the battery. If you are not sure where it is,consult the owner's manual, or call Dell.
