Benny Chan is one of Hong Kong's top action film directors. According to an interview with actor Sam Lee, Benny is like a big kid when he is on the set. Benny made his directorial debut in the trendsetting film A Moment of Romance, the film that helped launch Andy Lau to superstardom with his portrayal of a young thug who falls for his kidnapee. Lau and Chan worked again 2 years later on the comedy What A Hero!. Afterwards, Chan worked on serious fare again, with films like Man Wanted and Big Bullet. He also worked on the TV series version of Fist of Fury starring Donnie Yen. In 1999, Benny worked on the blockbuster Gen-X Cops, featuring a cast of newcomers. Chan's flair, along with the cast, made the film a hit. Chan would go on to direct the sequel in 2000, Gen-Y Cops. In 2003, after a 3-year layoff, Chan returned as director for the Ekin Cheng-Leon Lai film Heroic Duo.
