I have the old fashioned ceiling with the 12x12, very thick cardboard like tiles that get nailed or stapled to slats.

you probably have flour moths. Do you see little brown moths flying around your home, particularly in the kitchen area? These moths develop in old flour-based products and nuts. Once mature in your home, they will reproduce. At this time of year you will notice small white worms about. They cling to ceilings for some reason.
They are disgusting and I hope to read here how to get rid of them.

Do you have fruit flies?
They also have maggot type larvae and are harder to spot, check aroung your fruits or other food left out(bread etc)
You can catch fruit flies by taking a coffee can with some old fruit or veggies at bottom, leave open after a few hours sneak up and put lid on trapping the little buggers.
Another larvae they could be and the ones found in wheat products(flour, breads) that have been around for a while.
I cant imagine they are from your ceiling, but try spraying an indoor insect killer(cover your kitchen stuff first)

It sounds like they could be maggots. Maggots come from filth, food being left around, trash. In your bathroom, it could be from urine on the floor or just unsanitary conditions. The maggots come from the bacteria that is formed by food items left around. You need to find the source and it sounds like the house needs a thorough cleaning. Maggots turn into flies, which only contaminate even more.

Those are maggots. You must have something dead in your walls or ceiling, like birds, mice, or maybe even a racoon or opossum. These animals like to make nests in peoples homes sometimes and perhaps you've had this happen and it died for whatever reason.

Its nothing really, They are very gross and its just little white worms trying to eat your food be sure yto check your fruits or vegatables, If you have a trash can over loaded with food from a couple years you should probaly see if that is where they are all coming from they are just babies from the fruit fly or the moth

You may well have what someone called flour moths, I call them grain moths. Look in your flour, oatmeal, rice, corn meal, grits, cereal boxes, dog food or any other grains that you use in cooking or have around the house. Pancake mix, biscuit mixes, are included in the look into. Just pour some of it out in a bowl and look through it.

You probably did not have them until you brought somethign into the house that had them in it. If you find them in one grain, throw all the grains out.

termites are a possibility, but they do not like daylight. Spray around the base boards all through the house with one of those do it yourself bug sprays taht can be had at Lowes (ortho or something).

They are probably weevils. Weevils like dry goods like flour to live in. Look in your flour, corn starch, anything like that and throw them out if you see those in there. I've heard that storing your flour in the freezer will prevent them and it won't mess up the flour since it can't freeze.
