Are you talking about quarterly, yearly, or over the life of cell phones service? Motorola has been making them since 1974, when they created the first one.

In terms of quarterly earnings it's Nokia (around the globe), but Sony Ericsson is taking bites out of all that revenue.
The situation is different in Japan and some countries where CDMA/TDMA are still prevailant.
However it is necessary to point out that your second question is not in as direct a connection to the first as you may think.
To educate your buying decision it's necessary to focus on what you want. Nokia sells so successfully because they integrate reasonable features in an easy-to-use product priced moderately as to appeal to many. In other words all rounders are bound to make someone or other happy.
I personally like both Nokia and Motorola though I think Nokia could've done more for their n-series.

#2 -- Motorola
#3 -- Sony Ericsson
I saw this a while ago, so it might've changed. I can't remember where I saw it. Probably one of the online business magazines.
