Adam...at least for the animals. I have no idea who named the plants, but I would assume that he did too. Although if you want to get technical, God did...and yes, plants came before animals. But Adam named them.

Obviously, most of the common plants/animals have been known since times immemorial. However, the guy who developed the modern system of categorizing and naming them was the Swedish naturalist Linnaeus, who live in 1707-1778... see the sourced link for details.

Since Linnaeus's time, whoever discovers a new plant/animal gets to name it. There are billions of different plant & animal species, so naturally there are a whole lot of different discoverers. If you want to find the one person who deserves the most credit overall, Linnaeus would probably be the guy.

no-one could ever answer that question, your talking about the first living creature with a sliver of intelligence to distinguish the difference between multicellular organisms and vegetables..
