if you are moving this Sunday.. there is no such thing as stress free.. I just moved with alot more time than that. first of all.. go get a set of clean sheets for each of your beds. when you break down those beds to move add the pillows and blankets.. get this box or bag in your car so they don't get lost in the many boxes.. my mom insisted on making my beds up when i moved and i was very thankful at the end of my move day!! since you are moving in just a few days.. start in one room and pack the whole thing.. if you have breakables that would break your heart if broken.. mark them well.. even consider putting them in your own car.. don't even move the boxes. leave them in the room you pack them..Have the movers move your kitchen in the truck last, so it is the first thing moved in to the new place. that way you can start to unpack the kitchen.. mark the box with the coffee machine, you don't want to be searching for that come Mon morning! If you have other valuables.. jewelry etc. do not mark the box specifiably (another i would consider putting in your own car) just mark breakable.. if you are having the moving company pack your stuff up.. i would still do the bedding and the breakables yourself.. good luck.. and what are you doing reading this?? get to packing!!!!!

THIS Sunday? Crikey! All right start packing the stuff you don't absolutely need. Go to grocery stores and ask for boxes. Pick up some blank newsprint (regulat newspapers just mark eveything up). Otherwise, just pack a few things in a suitcase like clothes and toiletries, leave a few dishes you can just throw into a box, and then go room to room systematically. Start with the closet (leave almost everything in the drawers, it can be taken as is) and just work your way through. Throw out all liquids or take them yourself because the movers cannot take liquids. Good luck mate!

If you have the money let them do the packing as well as the moving. If not, then you need to gather boxes and newspaper to wrap things in. Mark each box for the room you want it in at the new house. Get rid of things you no longer want. You don't have a lot of time for that, but you can either give away, Saturday is a good day to take things to a goodwill or set things out for trash.
Moving can be stressful, Good luck.

I believe that if you are just now asking this question with a move to happen this Sunday, then you are not going to have a stress free move. I moved and it took me a good 6 weeks to plan and pack for the move. I also have a very successful garage sale that ended up paying for the move. I only had my husband and myself to move and I used a moving company. We did our own packing. We would pack several boxes every night. We really had a very successful move with as little stress as possible. It is all in taking your time. That seems to be what is lacking in your move. Good Luck to you anyway. I wish I could have been more help.

Categorize all items into specific boxes, etc. & make sure you print on outside of boxes whats in them eg. Kitchen supplies, Bathroom personal accessories, etc. If you don't wish for the movers to know whats in what, then just mark them where they should take them & if fragile or not. Eg. Kitchen, Livingroom (fragile, please place on top of other boxes), Downstairs bathroom, etc. You can use different coloured permanent ink markers to help. eg: red for bedrooms (#1) for master bed room (#2)for sm.pink bed room etc. Also attach stickers to items that are not boxes with markings such as Basement, Kitchen etc.
Hope you checked with the Better Business Bureau in regards to the moving co. you chose to move your stuff, there are unscrupulous dealers out their!
Most of all just be prepared to roll with the punches as moving of any sort is stressful. If you've got the money...unpack & orginize this coming week, but make an appointment with a local spa for next weekend to treat yourself for a day, so the continual craziness of unpacking & org. is worth your while. Good Luck & really enjoy your decision for moving... this usually occurs 4-6 mths. after cause you'll be over the bruises & emotional turmoil a move can cause.

Pack all the little stuff first, and pack according to necessity, packing the less necessary things first. Try to pack like things with like things. Keep rooms together in boxes. Go through one room and then move onto the next.
Also, as you are going through your stuff, get rid of anything you don't want. That will make unpacking a lot easier.
You don't have a lot of time. How much stuff do you have?

If the moving company is going to pack also, just pack your personal item that you will need almost immediately.
Are you flying or driving to your destination? If driving, take your coffee pot, toaster, etc. with you.
If you are packing yourself: Take one room at a time and label that room. Take a break and begin the next room. (Hope your house is not too big). Take it easy, break it down into sections, keep a positive attitude and it will not seem so overwhelming.
Good luck and enjoy your new adventure!

Pack it room by room and label where everything goes. A moving company is great...less stress on everyone. You do need to tell them what room things need to go in when you get to your new place

What i do is start with one room. Finish that room. I make sure every box is marked lets say bedroom on the boxes. Then i start maybe with the washroom and do the same thing. I find marking the boxes of their contents is less stressful and easier when it comes to unpacking.
Take care.

If you have rented a moving company you hav already comitted to pay them--so leave them to it! (Remember to have enough cash. Most movers will not accept cheques--and they want payment up front before they move anything). If you are going to do the move yourself, here are some good tips: It depends on the size of the move: if U just hav clothes etc. it's fairly easy, but if it involves furniture and heavy things--DO leave it to the movers. Get a LOT of boxes but not the ones so big they'll fit a stove!! (You'll end up putting your back out with those). Get ones you know you can handle and remember--when you lift a heavy box BEND YOUR KNEES or you really will put your back out!
The secret to a smooth move is DO THINGS IN THE ORDER OF THEIR IMPORTANCE: In packing, try to pack your bed last, if possible. that way it's most likely to be unpacked FIRST--and the first and most important thing is to get your bed set up so that when you get tired you can at least get some sleep and not end up on the floor.
Unpack food next. Now you're in business! You're set up for eats and sleep!
PACKING: NEVER put things from two seperate rooms or from different zones of the house randomly into the same box. Put ONLY kitchen things into boxes marked KITCHEN, and ONLY things from the bathroom into boxes marked BATHROOM etc Even if you still have some room left in some boxes, don't get tempted to `top the box up' by throwing in a few things in from a different room. The reason is because when you get to your destination you (or your helpers) will know right away which ROOM each box should be placed in (and you don't end up with bedroom stuff in the living room and kitchen stuff in the laundry room--and so on). Also, with this method, IF you don't get everything unpacked right away you still have the BOX containing what you need IN the room where the thing you are looking for actually belongs (so, if you need a coffee cup right away, you can reach into the box marked KITCHEN and when you have to find your shaver --it may still be packed, but at least you know it's in the box in the bathroom MARKED `BATHROOM'
When you pack clothes you can rent wardrobe-type boxes (with hangers in them for good suits etc. Shirts, dresses and so on--lay them flat then ROLL them up before putting them into suitcases/boxes--whatever you have: (you don't get them all creased when you roll them). If you have to go to work the next day and you need to be `dressed up', be sure to put your suit/shirt or dress on a hanger and hang it in a steamy bathroom before you go to bed. This way your outfit will have time to lose the creases and you won't look `all crumpled up'.
Save ONE box (one about the size of two loaves of bread) and mark it ` ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT STUFF'. This is for your extra set of car keys, an extra $50.00 in case you mislay your wallet, your personal telephone list, a spare toilet roll, a bottle of asprins, your final utility bill from the last place you were at, the lease for this new apartment, your new landlords name and address, YOUR NEW PHONE NUMBER AND NEW ADDRESS, a couple of spare fuses and lightbulbs, a new LOCAL telephone directory, your movers contract (and/or insurance coverage contract). These are all things you may need in a big hurry (you might not--but it's best to know where they are so PUT THIS BOX RIGHT OUT ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER NEAR THE PHONE as soon as you get to your new place). Good Luck!
