What is the difference between a Thermometer used to measure BBT and a normal digital one. I had read that an accurate digital thermometer can be used to measure the BBT.

A BBT thermometer is more sensitive than a regular fever thermometer, and is supposed to be more accurate. The digital versions read to the hundredths of a degree (98.00).

If you are just figuring out charting, and don't have one yet, a regular digital will work for you - it just won't be quite as precise. If you do start with a regular thermometer, don't change to a BBT (or a different thermometer) mid-cycle, or that can alter your chart and make it hard to decipher.

Best of Luck!

A basal body thermometer measures your temp to to a much more accurate degree. It is specially designed for getting pregnant. A regular digital thermometer may not be as accurate and may fluctuate more.
I charted for 2 months as well. The first month I had a regular digital thermometer. I noticed a lot of fluctuations in my temps even though I was temping at the same time each day. I still saw a thermal shift when I ovulated. I then bought a basal thermometer for the second month and still had some fluctuations, however, the basal thermometer recorded temps to the hundredth 97.22, for example, whereas the normal thermometer would have stopped at 97.2. This helped greatly, otherwise, I would have seen more flat temps, versus a rise of .05 degrees.
