I think it was something to do with glamour models back in the 80's that started the thing off about Essex girls, all I can say is we met two really lovely girls from Essex earlier this year on our holidays and they were sweethearts and really nice, not a bit thick or dizzy and when one little boy got stung badly by a jellyfish those two girls were the only ones who knew what to do, guess some of those awful trends from the 80's stick around and hurt people even now, just be yourself and ignore the baddies.

I think that there is a group of the female population from Essex that make such an impression it gives everyone else from Essex that reputation. Whether that's minority or majority I do not know.

Are you sure the reputation is about being thick or dizzy? I think you will find it is about their bedroom habits!!!

Bad reputations are easy to get but difficult to loose

Mostly based on a couple of page 3/glamour models who got famous in the 80's appearing in national papers etc. They were from essex, everyone had heard of them and bingo - all essex people behave like a couple of ditzy glamour models

Sadly, people prefer stereotypes to truth. Most annoying.

I think it has something to do with the way they speak and the number of fourteen-year-olds pushing prams.
