"You don't come into my country; you don't come into my congressional district and you don't condemn my president," Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, scolded Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
"If there's any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not," Rangel said at a Washington news conference.
"I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president: Don't come to the United States and think, because we have problems with our president, that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our chief of state," Rangel said.
Nancy Pelosi, D-California, was blunt in her criticism of the Venezuelan leader. "He is an everyday thug," she said.
whats your opinion?

A lot of Americans complain not just to exercise our rights, freedoms and liberties but because it is our RESPONSIBILITY to point out things that are wrong in order to correct these... it is not because we're not patriotic... it is BECAUSE we're patriotic that we complain. THAT is what many partisan fanatics fail to see and understand... hey, just because we disagree with you doesn't mean we have to hate one another; we should be willing to listen and not repeat slogans but genuinely express our opinions free of propaganda. We must be willing to learn from one another without hatred or bigotry or animosity.
We disagree in some things but not in all. Most Americans are in disagreement about many things (race issues, immigration, national security vs invasion of privacy with illegal random searches, etc) but we all agree there are no other countries like the USA... we all agree that there are some despots, tyrants and demagogues... like Chavez... in the world! But, this is a new millennium, and if anything, history has show us that those days ain't gonna last long for him. Castro ain't gonna last forever either.
Chavez? His people will grow tired of his tirades and his lies soon enough. Remember what happened to Mussolini? Hitler? Idi Amin? People like him only serve to further unite us as a Nation, and as a people with a wealth of diversity, as Americans.

If the Dems in fee went after each Dem that grew to become into the two cheating on their taxes, merchandising undesirable rules designed to weaken u.s., or those hob-nobbing with the Obama-appointed Czars with anti-American sentiments, there may well be no Democrats left.

THIS IS A SHOCKER.
It' completely out of character for Democrats to stand up for our country.
They always support our enemies and hate America when they aren't in power.
But I saw Rangel on Fox News and was shocked when he spoke out for us.
MAYBE IT'S FOR THE COMING ELECTIONS AND IS JUST ANOTHER DEMOCRAT TRICK.

i think chavez said it to get a reaction and people reacted.
unfortunately, if chavez wanted to persuade the people of america to respond to him positively, he chose the wrong words.
then again, bush did try to get him assassinated. i'd probably react similarly.
one last thing- if the u.s. can't handle criticism, maybe u.n. headquarters should be set elsewhere. these world leaders can't help where this forum is held. they have a right to express their opinions.

It's about time the Democrats come to the defense of their country...Took them long enough!!
And to Ms. superhoot...........what assassination attempt are you talking about....Rumors aren't a good thing. don't start them.
Secondly, whose side are you on? Not your own countrys when you agree with a dictator who has goten his own country in ruin, and its people............It's like Chauvez coming into your home and telling you that you are a dirty housekeeper, that you are the devil, and that you hate your family..........How dare any dictator come into our country and bash our president and our people>>And you agree with that??? Go to Venezuela. You don't care about your own country..

Glad to see politicians do the right thing for once. Kudos to them.
I also wonder what the people of his country would be saying about him if they had the right to free speech and a free press. Which they don't!
