You don't say which truck or which engine you have, but I am assuming that you have one of the three V8's available and that we are talking about a 1500. If you have a V6 and are intent on dragging the big monster faster, I suggest that you trade the vehicle rather than modifying it as the cost/gain ratio will be poor. As good as the V6 engine is, you have to realize that you have a heavy vehicle and it has a lot of frontal area to overcome. Yes, the V6 can get the truck over 100 but you wouldn't love what it did to your around town driving.
Additionally, if you have a 2500, 100 mph should be fast enough unless you have some sort of reason to be going that fast, like stealing gold bars from Fort Knox. If you insist for some reason,
if you have either the 5.3 liter engine or the 6.0 liter engine, I am a little surprised that it would not do over 100 mph indicated, at least. With the 4.8 liter, which produces max torque at around 4000 RPM, I would think you would probably top out around this point. Hence I am guessing this is the combination you have, with a 4 speed automatic.
JBA makes an excellent exhaust package for any of the 3 V8's. This may increase your torque at the rear wheels by almost 30 lbs/ft on the 5.3. I include their web site below and there is a link to an actual independent installation and road test, including an intake and programmer module. This might be one way to go.
Probably beyond your budget at the present time is a new 6.6 diesel with the Allison automatic. With mods by various companies, like Gale Banks, these truck become blindingly fast with no internal modifications. Good luck and keep us posted if you try some of these mods!

This has been said before... but I'll sum it up.
YES the truck has a Governor. 98-100 is the cutout range. All of the engines (4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 6.0) will hit over 100. The true difference here is how fast do you want to get there.
Since the transmission has the same ratios no matter what engine is selected, the next key lies in the rear axle. NOTE that all of them will get you over 100, but the question needs to then be how fast do you want to go/get there.
If you have an extended cab, regular box with a 5.3 V8, 3.73 gears and 4x4, you could MATHEMATICALLY hit 160, maybe better. Realistically, your not going to get better than 135.

Yes, they can go faster, you just have to disable the speed limiter. My 02 used to have the 4.8L, and with 4.10 gears and a few bolt ons I GPS'd it at 133.4 mph- although I don't recommend going that fast as they tend to get a little wavy on the big end.
I havn't got the balls to try to top the 408 out, I've had it over 120 a few times out on some straight country roads and it's not even trying.

The truck probably has an electronic speed limiter built into it. The reason being is that when you are approaching those speeds, you need to have proper suspension, tires and brakes to drive that fast safely. Trucks aren't designed to go fast, they're designed to haul stuff. Once you upgrade your trucks suspension, brakes and tires, then you can seek a way to remove the speed limiter. For the sake of the rest of the drivers on the road who don't want to be killed by your wrecklessness, don't take your truck over 100 mph.

Its got a govenor on it. Have it removed and you should top out somewhere around 150 mph.
I am basing this off of the guess that it has an 8 cylinder small block in it.

yor lucky if it goes that fast cause usally those models have a cut out swith like a governor so your engine are in specs and the law can catch you but if you change the cut out switch and reprogram the chips you can get the bad boy 120 + on a long open stretch and smooth no traffic rd. with a touch of aviation fuel but don't use it unless yor engine is designed for N.O.S. and is bored over .30 using 20,000 bearings and a steel crank!! I shut my car down and have more peddle to go 130 m.p.h i have a CAMARO I- ROCK Z-28 with a bootlegged police chip.!!!! used pump unleaded gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck..
