Strange how most of us have no problem cooking and eating dead animals but are repulsed by the idea of touching a dead person.

You know I can't tell you why people are horrified when they find out what your job is. If you put that on the question maybe we could all give you a better answer.

I am surprised that you actually have to tell anyone; can they not smell the formaldehyde as you approach? If I were acquainted with an embalmer, my main concern would be that hands were washed before leaving work.

Never mind what people say, if you are out earning a crust to keep a roof over your head then sod everyone else. at least you are working.

Hi, it's cuz you deal with the dead and the most people are scared stiff of dying. You're directly involved with their worst fears and anguishes. So not only is it that people probably think it's materialistically gross, because you touch dead people, but mainly its the psychological aspect of it for them. I think you're doing a job if you enjoy it, good on you! Someone has got to do it and hopefully it helps you to deal with your own issues surrounding death.

Your job sounds interesting to me, people are probably horrified because they do not understand, and people are affraid of the unknown.
