Okay, some, not all Americans think that way, but look at some of the responses on Yahoo Answers.
In many parts of the world people can live healthy productive lives and enjoy the same freedoms as Americans, if not more. I have lived in America and also about five other countries and, while I enjoy spending time in America - my folks live there, I'm happier living elsewhere for various reasons.
I think this flag-waving we're-the-greatest attitude is one reason why America is getting a bad rep.

Agree with you completely. This is NOT the America that I grew up in. Nothing but trouble when religious WACKOS(anywhere in the world) get any political power.

I have noticed that other countries do have as much freedom if not more than the US citizens also. But I think that there is kind of a brain washing that has been passed down for generations that do not let Americans see that there is more going on in this country and the world that the government is telling us. The government thinks that they are being protective, and they may be a little. But I think that the delusion will become clear one day, at least I hope. I love this country, but I do not love the government and what it is doing to the people right now. It is very frustrating. I do see the freedoms of other countries, and I glad that they have them, It would not be fair if only a few countries in the world had freedom. There are others that are not brainwashed and awful like the rest of the world thinks. I think that we are just not heard about elsewhere. All the people in other countries hear is that BS that big george is willing to tell. Yes there are some, like I said the brainwashed ones, that are arrogant and closed-minded. But loving this country and not knowing anything else about other countries is going to leave people ignorant.

americans dont think that their country is the only one with freeddom, but rather it is the coutry where u can accomplish more things than any part of the world.
let me explain u: sure u can have a good life in europe, or other parts in the world, but "cause of their welfare programs,bureoucracy, etc, u are going to get to a "maximum"point.
in America is not like that, we have more freedom, in the way that if u are a driven person u can achieve more, so basically u are the one who chooses to be on welfare for the rest of your life, or rather a very succesful person.
or why do u think bill gates is the richest man on earth, like it or not, he could have not been the succesful man he is righ now, if he had been in europe. this means we have more economic freedom, the sky is the limit.
that is why America is # 1.

Living in America and being an "American" are two completely different things. Sure, we as Americans have freedoms that many other countries do not give to thier people. For instance...You talking smack about america. In some countries you could be killed for saying what you just asked.
But ultimately it all comes down to one thing. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE USA NOR THE FREEDOMS FOR WHICH IT STANDS, THEN STAY THE HELL OUT.

Yes, you're correct. Many Americans display xenophobic, parochial tendencies.
What's even more interesting is that there are countries where everyone is free, not just white males with high incomes. And those countries have good roads, excellent bridges, sound electrical grids, and modern water and sewage systems, unlike ahlf-broken, falling-apart good ol' US of A.

It's ignorance. Plain and simple lack of knowledge about the rest of the world. So some of them believe what they hear on the tv. It's just incredible the lies that Fox News and co will repeat over and over again. But if that's your only source of information, then of course you believe it.

maybe 50 years ago- this is what our government strongly stated. Take a look at middle & high school text books and ethics- then you tell us why us wonderful americans think this

most Americans you meet in real life are good people.

you are wrong. there is no substantial data that Americans think that theirs is the only democratic country enjoying freedom. yahoo answers is being extensively used by Americans and a conclusion can not be drawn from the yahoo answers

Ever heard of propaganda? This is what they are told by TV. They are plain brainwashed! And, to be fair, they do have a lot of freedom by comparison.
