It will be on the DVLC system as 'V.E.L expired' and will then be passed to the police for action.

The whole system is computerised now so assuming the owner has registered the car in his/her name then he/she will get fine through the post. Continued failure to tax the vehicle will result in a court appearance or said vehicle being towed away and crushed.
The police don't have time to go chasing after evrtone who doewsn't tax their car and generally will only pick it up if they pull the vehicle over for any reason.

Is it in your way or stopping you getting in and out of your house? I take it that its not so I wouldnt get involved - sometimes people fall on hard times and cant afford to pay it on time - its life and it happens, because you have reported someone they will probably also get a fine now - so if they couldnt afford there car tax they are even more out of pocket, your probably a nice person really but no offence I am glad your not my neighbour.

As long as it takes the authorities to catch up with the owner.
In terms of the law though I believe there is no buffer period for the driver to get a new one.

report it again, you might find that DVLA have already actioned it, just because the car is on the road doesn't mean that the owners haven't received a fine or court summonds.

It shouldnt be allowed at all.
Try and find a traffic warden and show him the car, I think they get commission for the number of tickets they give, so he will be more than happy to come and ticket it for you

it is an automatic computerised system now, the vehicle owner is sent a fine by a computer if there is no tax disc and no SORN, reporting it does nothing
