I am still breastfeeding but having to supplement. We first started on Enfamil and my 8 week old was having severe stomach ache and gas. Her doctor then said to try Soy formula and suggested I try to stay away from dairy products. That didn't help much.
I have been reading up a little and decided to try Nestle Good Start. It is the best so far. She rarely is in pain anymore but she still has gas constantly.
Does anyone know firsthand what is best?

unfortunatly what evereyone is left in the dark about is that if you are allergic or intollerent to cows milk then you have a high probablitiy to have the same reaction to soy....
I learned the hard way with my son who is extremely allergic to cows milk... we went through all of the formulas in the store soy and milk...
then when we got to the point he was spending more time in the hospital for respiratory problems, and stomach problems I fired the gi doc he was seeing... the new one explained the allergiy and intolerances they have... he then placed my baby on alementim... well he didn't do well with it... and then there was the option of a prescription formula called ellecare.. there is another called neocate.. both very expensive.. about 30-50 dollars for a small powdered can (the one that last 3 days.) it made all the difference in the world with mine.. now he is not fussy... no gas... etc

It's probably not a problem with the formula, but rather how you are preparing it.
You are supposed to shake the formula with the water to mix it. However, a lot of young mothers shake the bottle violently. When you do this, you put a lot of air bubbles into the formula. Try an experiment: Prepare 2 bottles of formula. For the first, shake it as you usually do. For the second one, just try to swish it around gently, without shaking it up and down. Visually inspect both bottles. You'll notice that the first bottle will have lots more bubbles in the formula - all of these bubbles are going into your baby's tummy!

"Sometimes" it isn't what the baby is ingesting that causes the gas and crying! When babys get the colic they get gassy and cry continuously.A lot of people think it just "an old wives tale" But I swear by it. When a baby under 6 months old is exposed to outside air most will get colic. I never took my baby's outside without a blanket over their head "in winter" and in the summer if they are newborn to 3 months I would put a thin recieving blanket over them. after three months old I would put a hat on them, for the summer I had those light weight cotton hats. Not once did any of my kids have colic!

Every baby is different, so you just have to keep shopping around and see what works best for your baby. It may be the bottles you are using. Dr. Brown and Playtex w/ the drop in liners are very good bottles because they keep air out of the bottle which creates less gas and colic in the baby. Less gas and colic= less crying, happier mom! LOL. Hope this helps!

It could be the bottles and the amount of air that is getting into them. Which in turn the baby swallows and gives the Baby gas. Also, once you find a brand you are comfortable with go to www.1800diapers.com and they have diapers, wipes and formula for a lot cheaper than the stores and in bulk, so it could save you money.

Enfamil Nutramigen. Twice the price of regular Enfamil, but it works, and works well.

I use Similac Advanced liquid. I think it works really good with no gas bubbles! Try that. Good luck.

Stick with what works then. As long as the pain is gone I would be thrilled.
