Is the American school system really so ineffective?

The American school system uneducated me.

Education means very little. It helps some people, hinders others, and just confuses the heck out of the rest. If you look at the intelligence of a person independent of education you'll understand this.

Though, personally, I dropped out of college before I finished 2 years and I only finished H.S. with a 2.73 GPA. As you can see; I'm an idiot.

There is little doubt to me that, the American system of education - compared with that of other countries - is quite ineffective. To give just one example, almost all math competitions these days seem to be dominated by Asians. Of course, this seems to contradict America's world dominance in economics, technology, and the military.

Is the American school system ineffective? If performance of the average student in America is compared with other countries, then the answer to that may be 'yes'. Why might this be the case? Perhaps because education is not valued in American society - not by students, not by parents, and not by the people running the educational system. Perhaps public awareness may help alleviate the problem?

Another reason may be that too many distruptions exist during classes and after school that hinder students from reaching their potential. If students were more disciplined in the classroom, teachers could dedicate their efforts to teaching, rather than disciplinary issues.

I don't really know of Amercian School Systems but by assuming that this site is accessed only by Americans, you have managed to indicate that you atleast, are uninformed.
Also, an uneducated person is not really in a position to argue on why (s)he is so uneducated in the 1st place! The question appears pointless

I checked your profile and found that you are a newbie to ANSWERS. Therefore, with your extremely limited experience here, you are not yet qualified to make your judgment. If you, yourself, were a product of an excellent educational system, your question would have been more elegantly phrased. One might ask why the educational system in your own country is so inadequate.

Even bright Ideas come out from a person hailing from unanimous village!
Education is not something that we are taught.
It is something that we learn, to solve the upcoming issues and to foresee the problems ahead.

While that may be the case with many here, perhaps even a majority, to assert that such is true of "all" is a foolish generalization.
