The Unbearable Lightness of Being
1988
Director Phillip Kaufman
Based on the book of the same title, author Milan Kundera, a book I highly recommend.

Lena Olin is smoking hot in every one of her scenes, and hat sales rose dramatically along with many other things after the movie, but her scene with costar Juliette Binoche, when Lena begins photographing Juliette and then Juliette takes the camera and begins photographing Lena -- oh my gawd.

Her (Juliette's) naivety yields to a sensuous dance with only the camera as their music, as the conductor of their symphony, a dance of kindred mind and body, and although there is no sex whatsoever in the scene, the imagination and inhibitions are set free as the two take turns exploring and learning through their use of the camera as a means to first gently probe, then stimulate and finally to reveal the language of the soul expressed through the body...
......oh my oh my...
................and saying so much, so very, very much...

If you haven't seen this beautiful movie, you need to drop everything and see it now.

It is a tragic love story and the story of a young woman coming of age, all set against the back drop of the 1968 Czech uprising and the subsequent Soviet crackdown and occupation.

Tomas (Daniel Day-Lewis) is a doctor and a lady-killer in 1960s Czechoslovakia, an apolitical man who is struck with love for the bookish country girl Tereza(Juliette Binoche).

His more sophisticated sometime lover Sabina (Lena Olin) eventually accepts their relationship and the two women form an electric friendship. (very electric! mmph!)

The three are caught up in the events of the Prague Spring (1968), until the Soviet tanks crush the non-violent rebels; their illusions are shattered and their lives change forever.

There is nothing tawdry or lewd, and nothing whatsoever gratuitous about any of the scenes in this film

I rate it as the most sensuous movie I've ever enjoyed.

The title alone should clue you in ~~ the unbearable lightness of being.

Honorable mentions for hot love scenes -- (there are so many, I had to name a couple)

The opening scene of the movie "Betty Blue."
Talk about grabbing the audience up front!!!!

The love scene between Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rachel (Sean Young) in "Blade Runner." There is no sex on camera, but the prelude to their dance is the emotional -- and given the psychological thrust of the film and of the PKD novella arguably also the dramatic -- climax of the movie, when human Deckard succumbs to his love for the replicant Rachel.

I could continue on this topic for a very long time, but, well, I'll save that for another more appropriate time....

Does "Boogie Nights" fit into this category?
To answer your question, most older films have love scenes which are suggestive and much more erotic than anything produced within the last 20 years. For instance, the scene on the beach with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in the film "From Here to Eternity."

I would have to say Original Sin with Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas. It's steamy.
