Contact your local paper and your local tv station and talk to someone there - they love a good story about the misuse of council tax. Organise a petition and a demonstration (and let the press know when the demo is taking place).
Good luck!

The same happened with our council. They tried to blame the dump site for not spraying the waste after it was dumped in the landfill sites.
Yet somehow they can find money to chip wheelie bins! So it seems OK to let an outbreak happen just to support the wheelie bins getting chipped.
Why do they want to chip wheelie bins?
They claim that they would be better able to judge when they need emptying.
So if one house uses more rubbish there going to send the binmen round early?
The bins are getting chipped so they can see what your spending your money on. Another case of big brother is watching you.

Find the portion of your council tax that is allocated to refuse (refuge means protection) collection and deduct half of it from your payment. If they are only collecting your rubbish half as often, give them only half the payment.
Another option would be to round up all of the people in your area and take your bins (see - wheelie bins are useful!) to the civic centre / council offices and empty them there. Let the councillors put up wit hthe flies for a bit.
The local press would love it too!

The every other week collection was brought in to make us recycle more have you 2 or three bins?
i'm in Northern Ireland we have rubbish bin ,recycle bin ,and garden waste bin.
Because of the bin being collected every other week it is making us recycle more all tins ,paper and plastic bottles go in the recycling bin.
I maybe still have no room in my rubbish bin even though i'm doing this and find i'm going to the dump more often but my recycling has definatley been improving trying to get bin space.
food being put in the bin should be bagged infact i hardly put anything in loose its always bagged when the bin is empty give it a quickhose to get rid of waste maybe rotting at the bottum .
keep lid down and bin away from house as far as you can ,
remember its coming into winter and the flies won't be about as much .

We were in the same boat. From weekly to fornightly. With 3 kids under 5, you can imagine how much rubbish there was, even after we recycled quite a lot.
As neighbours do, we all got talking and decided to send individual letters to the council expressing our concerns for public health issues as often there were black bags lying next to the bins for upto a week as the bins were overflowing.
To our suprise. we all got letters back to say that after receiving so many separate comments, they were taking our concerns on board and have now switched back to weekly. (all in all it was over a period of 8 months so don't hold your breath).
Good luck!.

Maybe you need to recyle more, its a pain in the *** washing out all those bloody bottles and cans but I guess it cuts down on all the crap we throw into landfill sites. I hear Scotland is bad for midgies and flies (like N. Ireland). Has your estate thought of going en masse to the Council's Pest Control dept. Might help.

Do you have a wheelie bin? If you put your rubbish in the wheelie bin and close the lid, then flys should not be able to get into it, and if you dont keep it too near the house then the flys wont get in the house.
