actually the reason that the poppy fields have increased in size is because of a spate of good poppy growing weather in afganistan - i think maybe more rain than usual or something. however you are right the gvnmt is not doing enough to stop this problem - is it because they also make money from this trade?!

erm, no. Its simply that we're fighting an expensive war against Taliban forces and thus, with our backs turned, it allows these illegal farms to increase their output. We're also fighting an expensive war fighting the problem in the UK, why would we then encourage its growth only to fight two expensive campaigns against it?
