I am terrified of wasps, despite never having been stung by one! I know it probably wouldn't hurt that much either, and the likelihood of me dying from it are minimal. Nonetheless, I run away screaming and arms flailing should one come within spitting distance. Daft or what?!

As for irrational fears, there are people who are scared of buttons, purple food and cotton wool: at least I'm not one of them!

What are you irrationally scared of?

I am a TFT therapist and I deal with phobias all the time. Its great when they disappear. the most unusual ones I have had to treat are polystyrene and a fear of bottles without the labels on them. Buttons are very common and baked beans was quite unusual.

I'm scared of spiders although I'm starting to get over it a bit and have now got to the stage where I can let small ones stay in the house as long as they don't wander too far. Big house spiders however still send a cold shiver down my spine and I have to get the vaccum cleaner out to dispose of them. I used to have dreams where they were walking over my pillow or down the wall behind my head. On more than one occasion I lept out of bed convinced I had really seen one. I even dragged my wife with me on a couple of occasions. She was not very happy. I still have the dreams occasionally buy at least now when I wake up I realise that it was just a dream.

My wife is scarred of spiders too but also doesn't like flies and hates daddy long legs (crane flies)

I used to know a man who had a phobia of plants with thick fleshy stems, like rhubarb. That has got to be the maddest one ever. He couldn't watch 'The day of the triffids', in the same way that I couldn't watch Arachnophobia.

Wasps too, I have seen me in tears in town cos I couldn't get to my car because one was stalking me! And I have never been stung by one either but did get a bee stuck in my hair when I was small.

Am also very scared of clowns, dolls and the shakey head thing in horror films.

And the scraping against ice sound that someone makes when rooting around in a freezer and the feeling of pulling cotton wool apart makes my hair stand on end.

Maybe not as wierd as buttons, but I'm always really paranoid about hitting my teeth off the tap when I rinse after brushing my teeth. Never has and probabl never will happen but the thought of it makes me shiver!

My stepfather used to hate the feel of cotton wool, to the extent that my niece used to chase him around the house with it (he was 50, she was 2)

My heartbeat, 22years ago I had a mechanical heart valve fitted and ever since I have not been able to get to sleep without some form of noise(TV, music etc) to block out the clicking that my heart valve makes because I lie awake listening to it and have on several occasions been taken to hospital in the middle of the night due to having panic attacks.

I am scared of spiders. But I have this recurring dream of rushing to the station and missing the train, or being stranded on the wrong platform and the train begins to leave two tracks down, then running and getting lost.

The UK nanny state finding out that I don't believe diversity and politically inspired correctness has made to UK or anywhere else better and being sent to a government re-education camp until I see the world through Blair tinted glasses.

Imagine that eh?

Limos! If i see one driving down the street my heart skips a beat, and I get overcome with fear. But it's not real fear, I can't pinpoint it onto anything, it's just a strange physiological reaction! I can't make sense of it so I wont even try...

Loads of things! Especially food in my case. Fruit is a major fear of mine *shudder* I can't go near it or touch it, can hardly stand to hear about it!

I'm also vegetarian so I wont go near meat or fish. And I'm scared of baked beans and any kind of spaghetti in a tin with that baked bean kind of tomato sauce. Ooh dear.

Esculators!! how mad is that. I hate them and would walk an extra mile or hundreds of stairs to avoid one.
The worst bit is that I hate them because i think im going to fall over at the bottom/top and get sucked into it, which I know ont happen!!
