Recently I have seen "adobe spry"
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/

Its great library and as a demo it has RSS reader pure javascript. You do not have to do it so fancy in AJAX if you prefere server side scripting http://www.troywolf.com/articles/php/class_http/ here at this site you can find even example of RSS reader.

I plan to add spry to my site http://www.rentalio.com it seems to be very good and robust AJAX platform.

As far as I'm aware, JavaScript and HTML alone won't cut it. You'll need some sort of server-side control like php or asp or something.
