almost every time i go to any kind of Dr or fill out a form for business they want to know marital stauts. what is the purpose of this? I feel it is an intrusive question

It's a basic information that offices need for their records. It helps in doing background checks on people, and it also states a lot about your status.

Well, the government would need to know for tax purposes (like if you and a working, tax-paying spouse equal a household). At the doctor's office, they might need to know for insurance purposes, like is your insurance under your spouse. I agree that it is intrusive on job applications.

i think it is because employers believe that married poeple are more settled than single people.In addition a number of jobs provide benefits 4 married persons so they it is important to know your marital status

you dont have to answer it if you really dont want to but I think its like ethnicity questions and it is done for statistical purposes thats the best i got.

most of it's for legal purposes, insurance, in case of emergency, etc.
