I liked Persepolis. And though I couldn't read them, I could see that Iranian humour magazines are the best in the world, and that despite their horrid theocracy the Iranians have a sense of humour.

And I liked the broiled chicken I bought every few days. And the roses in Shiraz. And the friends I made.

But the politics are stifling. The oil revenues are being wasted. And so much energy is being diverted to the hatred of Israel and Jews (not so much the domestic ones and the foreign ones) that Iranians are losing their identity: as a multicultural home for Azeris, Turks, Jews, Armenians, Parsees. And all the rest. Sad really.

I was a member of the Persian society whilst at university! I used to go to language classes every week to learn farsi. we had regular socials as well with persian music! The persian people are very friendly and kind, and the ones I've met in this country are all very liberal and good fun to go out with! I'd dearly love to visit Iran, but my friends in the millitary tell me it's not safe to go there at the moment, and i'm inclined to believe them. Maybe I'll go there in the future, insya Allah!

If you want to know about Iran, you should see two movies by Majid Majidi. One is called "Baran" and the other is "The Color of Paradise". Majidi makes movies for Iranian consumption. Baran shows life in the city and villages. The Color of Paradise is about rural peasants. Both movies can move you to tears.

I have not been but Iran bothers me because of your leadership. I have no issues with the people but why do an oil/gas rich nation need nuclear technology?

A lovely country, hospitable and very gorgeous people. They just mind their own business. Like any other nuclear power, they should be allowed to get nuclear power. Look at our US. It has nukes. Why doesn't it give them all up and then ask the rest of the world to disarm? We should sweep under our own doorsteps first. Peace out!

Iran is a country that needs to be FREE. That is all.
However, if one country is allowed to have nuclear weapons, why not Iran. Iran should and MUST QUICKLY develop these weapons and use it responsibly, like any nation would.

POWER TO THE IRANIAN PEOPLE!

I know about its history, women police force, movies. But of late we have only been hearing about nukes and sanctions. Do you like it like that? Why don't you do something if you don't? I mean within your country first, then world view will change automatically.
