Different conventions have different themes. Often there are speakers, critique groups, social events. They are for networking and improving your craft.

As far as promoting writing that you've already published, I wouldn't take it to a writer's convention. Why? EVERYONE is trying to have something published or has had something published.

It is, however, a good resource for networking, since the publishing industry is definitely based on who you know these days.

a writers convention is for writers to help them give and get idea's.writing is what people read and its like a movie but u read not watch it.they need fresh idea's and all the writers get to gether to share idea's and thoughts.we all get writers block at some point in time and need a little push.be thankful that there is writers that have interesting stories to tell,for instance steven king is my favorite
