My children are now 7 & 5 years. When they were babies we were advised to wean them between 4-6months as this was considered the best "window" in terms of their accepting something new, combined with their bodies being able to accept it.
I understand that the latest school of thought is that babies shouldn't be weaned until at LEAST 6months.
As you are trying to wean your baby at 4 months I would have assumed that you already have older children and are following what you did last time. However, as you are asking about courgettes etc, I get the impression that this is your first child.
Whatever the case, please go and see your doctor or health visitor for advice.
Sometimes mothers are advised to wean their babies earlier for various reasons. A friend of mine weaned her baby ridiculously early and her daughter (now 9 years) is the picture of health. However, weaning too early can be detrimental to a child's health, so please, please go and speak to someone before you go any further.
Best wishes.

To be honest, I can't remember whether it's ok to give him courgette at that age, but my instinct would be that if he's handling the baby rice then courgettes should be fine. Remember NOT to add salt to the cooking water though, and when you puree them, to make them really sloppy by mixing them with either his baby milk or boiled water.
Even if you decide not to go ahead and feed him them straight away, the cooked and pureed courgettes will freeze really well. I used to make food in batches and freeze them in the ice-cube trays, then put the cubes in freezer bags. They should keep for about 3 months. A tip on that though - label your freezer bags! A lot of the 'first foods' will be white or cream-coloured, especially when you're mixing them with milk and it's so easy to forget what's in which bag.

It won't hurt but is not totally necessary, baby's who are weaned early because they were of a larger birth weight still only have a 4 month olds digestive system which is immature. If I were you I would stick to baby rice only for at least a month, you have only introduced solids to help satisfy baby's hunger not his need for flavours. Trust me when I say that weaning becomes an obsession if you allow it to, wait until around six months before you become madly obsessed with introducing different foods, your baby will better show you what he likes and dislikes at this age. Good luckXXXXX

i have had seven children, one was weaned at six weeks onto baby rice because she would not drink her bottles, and was losing weight, one boy who was weaned at six months because he didnt like the food, another girl who was weaned on veg and she would not take fruit or baby rice, and my last one has a bit of both, i try to give fresh whenever i can but jars, and dry work just as well if you are on the run. Her favourite is home-made spaggetti, and banana with raspberries. She also likes toast to chew on and garilic bread. MY third child like curry at 3months, i am a firm believer of feeding your child what they will eat, and when they want it. All children are different and weaning is the same. Feed your child what you eat, minus the salt and sugar, if it works for you then it can only be good. A contented child =happy child= happy mum. Good luck

I weaned my daughter at 41/2 months (also on Doctors advice) and she loved courgette and still does. We gave her all sorts of different fruits and veg from the beginning - she is now 14 months and will eat everything. As long as you take it slowly when introducing new foods he should be fine.

I weaned my son at 4 months as he was ready - courgettes were one of his favorite veggies & still are. Try to introduce different flavours - sweet potato etc.
Veggies like courgettes are very easy to mush as they are soft so he should digest them fine.
Good luck & happy cooking!

NO!!!!! - You should only just be beginning to wean him onto baby rice - he shouldnt really be trying things like that until around 6 months - its far too much for his system to cope with and just because you've managed to get him to eat doesnt mean it's going to be good for him to start eating courgette!
Stick with baby rice and porridge, mixed with his usual milk - this should only be a small proportion of his food at this stage anyway and shouldnt as yet be replacing any of his milk feeds.
