You know what they say:the weak can never forgive.Intolerance stems from mismanaged self-hatred,low self-confidence,fear and self-consciousness.My personal experience:I used to be a peace-maker.I had an accident 13 months ago and now I'm a ******* paraplegic cripple. My tolerance is flawed,my patience is gone,I'm "entitled"to intolerance.I find it difficult to forgive myself or others.
I don't know whether the average is forgiving or not.It depends on the circumstances and the personal data in terms of genetic heritage, education and life experiences

Nowadays there is the 'Politically Correct' way of doings a lot of things. So things like politeness and courtesy which came naturally in the past are demanded. Because of that when you either omit them, a lot of wrong or hurt is perceived done. Because of that people tend to feel that people are out to get them or get neurotic. So they counter spite (real or imaginary) with spite.
It depends on how you perceive things. If you are an understanding person, which I think most are, then you will be forgiving too. It's just not worth the time and energy being spiteful.

I think it depends on the person, the time of day, their mood, and on and on. I think sometimes it is good to forgive a person because maybe they are just having a bad day but if the trend continues then it is okay to call it quits.

I believe it is half and half...

It all really has to do with how you were raised, what you viewed & how you translated it in your years of growing mentally.
