In response to various other idiotic postings, I have purchased an American flag and a lighter. I'm now going to burn that mutha unless someone can give me a good reason not to.

First dumb answer and I'm lighting it up.

Come back Tolstoy all is forgiven LOL I mean .. Warren Peace ... War and peace! How shall i stop you from burning that flag? Easy! I'm not American and my mum was born in France. It was US soldiers who came to liberate her town, subsequently my grand-parents, mum and her two borthers. Had they not come to do so ... The odds were i wouldn't have been born because the germans were burning their hometown, them in it! So to me that is something very special. Until US soldiers came to their house, the family was practically starving and US soldiers brought them potatoes and chicken, made chicken maryland and chips (Their first real meal in ages) and they brought their doctor who gave my uncle antibiotics thatr saved his life. Thanks to them i also have cousins you see!

Now if my personal story doesn't wash with you ... try this! To burn anything these days contribute to global warming, be it a flag or anything so ... No matter how angry you may feel about the USA ... Think about the rest of us please!

Well, I'm against flag burning for this reason, and this reason only. The american flag is just a symbol.. yes. However it is a symbol of what americans hold dear. Freedoms and Liberties. The Constitution that the flag represents gives you the freedom to burn it. However, in doing so, you are actually saying that you do not desire those freedoms. So if you personally want to give up your rights and freedoms, symbollically by burning the flag. Then you are choosing to live a life that does not give you that freedom but functions more like a dictatorship. In which case, you'd probably be prosecuted.

In simpler terms.. it would be the same thing as flying in a plane (where you are defying the laws of gravity presently) and then saying... since the pilot said it's okay, I'm gonna jump out this mutha unless I'm given a good reason. It's your choice of course, but once you choose to jump out, laws of gravity apply again. But light it up if it makes you feel better...

Understand that burning an american flag is a very serious act. While it is a protected form of free speech it is an act which others may find very upsetting. You place your own physical self in harm's way if a patriotic zealot happens upon you. I have burned a few in my years, but only when my frustration level boils over--occassions such as our invasion of Grenada, the reelection of Ronald Raygun, and our disastrous dealings in Central America (illegal war against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and support of the Duarte regime in El Salvador) come immediately to mind. If you choose to burn the flag, do it as a sacred act meant to express your feelings, not just as a way to get attention.
Pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth never made sense to me. I pledge allegiance to my kids, to my family and friends, not some abstract rectangle that represents the true evil empire. I even wrote a little poem about it:
I retch allergic to the rag
of the White Estates of America
and to the repugnance for which it scams
abomination under god
indefensible
with Librium and pustules
for all

Hi,
Americans were brought you freedom and democracy
Their flag is the symbol of freedom and democracy oc the world nations, they are the only nation fighting for world along with Her Excellency Queen of England. Your nation is only thinking about your own econmoy and security, but Amercicans are always working for the international society, which is an enlightened society, so you switch of the light and enlight a sigerate and think it over and have a German beer or French wine. You just think about the history and enjoy the freedom, any wrong in the world just approach any media Amricans could help you. I am not an American, or British, I am a third world country citizen.

If this is a good enough reason to do it go ahead, frankly I wouldn't care if you were burning the flag or your pants as long as you weren't wearing them.

Respect.

Maybe doing so will make you feel better. But it doesnt change a thing.. there are still people who will post stuff that you wouldnt appreciate, and they wont really care on how you will react to it.

Well, I suppose you have the right as you have freedom of speech but while you are doing this . think of all the lack of freedom in other countries and then do us a favor by moving there.
