i agree with warasouth- but only on the Singapore part. i have been to both Singapore and Malaysia (kl only). Singapore is great with loads to see and do just make sure you do your research of where you want to go and what you want to see. Malaysia is a dump and we really did not feel safe there and all the taxi drivers will rip you off. the protonas towers were nice but that's it.
Singapore has loads- zoo, night safari, bird park, reptile park, botanic gardens, orchard road(shopping), china town, little India.
if you want a taste of the whole of Asia the go to Singapore it is the centre for all Asian cultures, you will meet people from every part of Asia and experience all of there cultures.

unless u visit all the places u cannot judge which is the best place. Only some bidy who has visted all places can answer ur question with some sense of correctness. hereagain the individauls tase and expectations are the deciding factor. So be specific of what u are looking for, then possibly u can expect a reasonably good answer. More often than not one's impressions are a reflection of their experiences. Some times in the best of places u can have a bitter experince. So check it out ur selves rather than taking others advise. remember one thing is research ur destination well and plan ur trip elaborately. But first decide what u are looking for from the trip.Every country holds some things exclusive. Some offer diversity and simplicity. Some offer friendly peoples company. Some have very organised tourism industry while others dont.
take ur own decision. And remeber the size of ur budget will ultimately determine the result. Goodluck and have a great vacation.

I would definately say China. The reason is that it has a Lot of everything.
Beautiful mountains and rivers.. mystical little temples and tea houses on fog tipped mountains. Beautiful.
Great Shopping, visit shanghai and you'll see all of the World's best shops.. gucci, dior, chanel.. ect. Also, personalized tailors can make whatever your hearts desire.. for relatively cheap. And, if you go to the markets, you can find Anything for a bargain.
Awe inspiring achitechture, beautiful city scapes. Shanghai's the place to visit for the city life, fun crazy night clubs, dancing, girls, (beauutiful girls).
Rich history, visit the forbidden city in beijing.. the terracotta soldiers in Xi'an, you'll see some of the world's oldest historical artifacts.
Cost efficient!! you can have a GREAT vacation for much less than if you went else where. awesome tour guides, cheap and Awesome AWESOME food.
----------
It has the shopping and city life of japan plus culture of no comparison. All other asian cultures like japan, korea, vietnam.. ect has been greatly influenced by chinese culture.

Despite recent enmity between our 2 countries , I will say Japan.
I was fortunate enough to have studied in Japan. It has a good balance between modernity and tradition. They have their own indigenous art forms and technology but have also taken from other cultures and improved on them. The Japanese love to surround themselves with beauty and cleanliness.
The countryside is very beautiful and diverse with great hiking and even temple pilgramages Hot springs and mountains are many . Kyoto and Nara are world famed and revered sacred areas . When the US decimated Japan with great slaughter , these 2 places were left untouched. Even barbarians are in awe of them !
The food is delicious and the toilets (no joke) awesome. It is the only place I have stayed where going to the toilet is something to look forward to.
My favourite spot was actually just outside Tokyo. It is a town called Kamakura and is on the coast with temples and hills and a very large seated Buddha.
I have told my English boyfriend that the only reason I will marry him is so that I can get a British passport and be able to visit Japan easily. For Chinese it is hard to get permission to travel !

All Asian countries are good to visit. Search the web and look for the spots you want to visit like beaches, historic places, etc. Also, don't forget to check on the country's safety. There are countries in Asia that are a little too dangerous to go to nowadays. Happy trip!

I'd recommend East Asia first - China, Japan, and Korea. (and maybe the Republic of China - Taiwan)
China very large and has many tourist attractions. (includes Hong Kong)
Japan is very westernized and more modern.
Korea has some nice attractions and is right between China and Japan.
Oh and the Republic of China is exactly the same as China, and the passports between the two places are sometimes interchangable...the main difference is that it's a democratic country.
Singapore is similar to China's Hong Kong and Shanghai, due to its population being 80% Chinese, 8% Korean + Japanese, 8% South Asian, 5% other

if you are for a week: you better visit Singapore or Maldives.
For a month: Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar or Pakistan's Himalayan side.
China, India and Indonesia are vast, so you need at least 6 months. All Asian countries are nice to visit.

I have visited many countries and Indonesia remains far and away the best! it's huge (as big as from Britain to Egypt!) and very varied. Don't bother with Bali, it's hastle city! Sulawesi is my favourite part. the people of eastern Indonesia are more laid back and less conservative than the Westerners!! Sulawesi is gorgeous as well with unspoilt beaches and coral reefs and many different types of rainforest! And it's very cheap to visit because the rupiah is virtually worthless!! around 20p for a meal and £7.00 for a nights good clean accommodation. flights to Indonesia start at around £400!
As for Singapore, I didn't like it! the people are unhelpful and rude, it's expensive, everyone speaks English but they wont! Like north Wales!!!!!!! It's a beautiful airport there though!!!!!!

For first timer, I'd recommend China.
I've visited China, HK, Macau, Singapore, Phillipines, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan.
I like Phillipines the least, and I like Japan the best. But China has a lot of tourist attractions that will suit you more than Japan does.

How about Singapore and Malaysia?
Singapore because it is one of the cosmopolitan cities and located next to Malaysia. Target about 3 days in Singapore
Malaysia because it is juz next to Singapore. You can spend time in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur or Redang if you like the beach.
Depending on the length of your vacation, you can also cross the Malaysian border to Thailand.
Have a good time!
