I have a friend who's going to Tokyo end of October to first week of November, and we're making plans for the trip. How much would the daily costs be for a tourist in Tokyo: Akasaka, Koto, Shibuya, Roponggi, and nearby areas? Any suggestion for a 12 day itinerary?

Costs for food (what type), transportation, books, souvenir items, manga, entrance fee to museums, convenience store, bars,etc..

Thanks in advance!

For a 12-day stay in Tokyo, you will need about 80,000 yen ($800) to be comfortable. That would be a little more than $60 a day. It is expensive for most tourist attractions. If you plan on visiting shrines or temples, they are free. As far as restaurants, there are McDonald's and other American restaurants, but who wants to eat that for 12 days. Most of the Japanese restaurants are inexpensive, but you might want to try more than one thing once you get there. Transportation is cheap and easy...a train ride from Tokyo to Shibuya is about 200 yen ($2). Souvenirs are expensive and roponggi is something like the club capital of tokyo. If you plan on going to any clubs, look for flyers to those club...flyers usually get you in for a discounted price.

Hope this is helpful

Pretty expensive in Tokyo on a 12 day trip.
Food 1500 yen a meal.
Transportation if only around Tokyo area you can get by with 1000yen a day.
Paperbacks will cost you 1300yen a pop.
Sourvenir items cheapest maybe 500yen a piece.
Manga are from 300yen.
Entrance fees are normally around 1000 yen.
Bars? Hell if you wanna party you gotta pay!!

Manga was about 500-700 yen per volume.
If you are anime/manga fans you will want to go to Akihabara, which is the electronics shopping disctrict. The main Animate store is there. It is the best place for anime character goods like pencil boards, posters, figurines, etc. If you hit Akihabara on Saturday you may see cosplayers walking around.

The subway is a good way to get around the city. Alot of my one way tickets were only around 170 yen.
What sort of souveniers? Postcards are strangely rare over there.
Museaum entrance fees will vary by museaum. I strongly reccomend finding the webites of museaums you want to go to while you are still in the states. You will want to get directions and to know what days they will be closed. Some museaums are also free one day per month.

Unless you will have internet access there, do alot of research here. It is very hard to find out about alot of stuff while you are there.

Have a great trip!

I recommend you to buy a Tokyo Traveler's guidebook..
Cost for food>>discounted lunch menus during weekdays, western or oriental, .900 yen lunch is more than what we need but incase you want to try another more we spend.
Transportation>> JR Lines or Subways, buses
Books>>secondhand bookstores
Souvenirs>> Asakusa, Laox, 100 yen shops
Museums>>check schedules and locations, entrance fee depends on the exhibits
Convenience stores>>everywhere but 100 yen shops has more cheaper stuffs and foods, ask your area
Bars>> weekdays are good, ladies night is free entrance with drink..Roppongi is a good spot, most foreigners live in Hiroo area...
Camgirl suggestion for $60 is good...but take extra cash just incase you get lost or decided to buy things or do something more in a day. when you decide to take a break for one day, you could save this $60 next day..
packing sandwiches or light snacks going around Tokyo would save you a lot going to restaurant, ..have meal before and after going out for a long trip in your place. could atleast eat once in a restaurant everyday,,with your choice of foods, western or oriental foods.. take the easiest and cheapest train route going here and there, ask or check route guides before going out. Books are very expensive, finding a secondhand book or mangas are the smart ways, I got lots when friends throw away their books and mangas, free. discounted CD's on video and music shops..
End of October and first week of November,, a very good decision to travel during this season because it is lot cheaper than earlier October..you got it! have a happy trip !
For me, I spend $35 a day... with a little baggy of food and stuffs whenever I went back on my place..well, entrances for museums or parks are not included but wherever you might decide it would cost you more than $15 depends wherever.. this$35 includes a day transportation, food and shopping a bit everyday..for 15 days I had a good trip. It helps when you don't smoke and drink...
Good day!
