It usually connects me to my own automatically but today it is acting up. There are a few open networks in my area and I don't have WEP on my own either... but everytime I choose mine from the list, it keeps connecting me to another (slower) one.. it is extremly frustrating.

Most likely their router is set higher on the list of routers for you to connect to. You can remedy this by clicking start >> control panel. When that opens select network connections. Right click wireless network connections and click properties. Select the wireless networks tab, about half way down the screen theres a box with a bunch of different routers. Simply click your router once, then click the move up button until its at the top. And that should take care of it.

Your router could have been hacked. If you don't enable security and use an encription key it is possible for someone to log into your router and change its config so that it will reject the association attempt by your PC. This allows them to use the entire bandwidth. Try to reset it to defaults and the enable wep or wap security.

Given enough time hackers can still hack your key and gain access, but usually they go after the open boxes.
