There are brutish people in all cultures and I am sure we have some of our own amongst the British too, just as long as they stay away from me that's fine.

Never heard the saying myself. Could have something to do with football hooligans, if so, definatly justifiable, if a little outdated. People have long memories, especially when the only time you meet a Brit is when he (usually) turns up for a friendly kickabout with your head.

The name Britain comes from the Brutus of Troy so, technically, you are right. There are other possible origins of Briatain.
