It depends on your lifestyle..If you are home most of the day, a dog is probably a better companion...As he wants to please you and learns.
If you are away from home a lot, a cat will be happy, and easier to care for..doesn't require as much training and socializing..

Dogs require the outside to do their business-ca'ts use a litter box indoors.
To have a dog inside while you are gone all day is very hard on them and they have a tendance to let you know it by tearing thigns up in their frustration! Cat's don't seem to be into that as much.

If you got a puppy, it will tend to "cry",especially at night and putting a ticking clock in with it's bed helps to calm it. Read in dog book that hearing that, to them, simulates the mother's body.

Owning a pet is not all fun and games though their love and companionship is so worth it. It is a big decision, however. Are you prepared for the cost factor, especially if your pet gets sick and requires veterinary trips-also-make sure they have their shots before purchasing-and do so from a reliable pet shop. Some buy from puppy mills-places that breed dogs to have litters one after another-thus producing litters that are not the healthiest ddue to the mother's,by then, poor condition.

For me it' s both, but it depends what you are looking for; A cat could be very close to you, but at the same time, he is more independent. You go to vacaction, he can stay home, as long as someone feed him every other day. A dog is more interactive, but will request more time and attention. Personally, I think dogs are great for children, to teach them responsibilities,, good companion all along the way of life, but cats, if you don't have any allergy, is a nice friend in a condo, for someone who cannot dedicate too much time to his pet, or for older people who cannot "walk the dog" anymore. By the way, small dog breeds are good in condo, too.

I think it depends on your lifestyle.

Cat's are loners-they dont usually need much attention, and are ok as long as you say hi, pet them, and feed/water them everyday.

Dog's need daily matience. You have to walk it, take it out to use the bathroom, and you have to play with it. Dogs need/want attention 24/7. You cnat leave a dog home alone for to long.

I have both

guys usually do better with dogs, but if you want an animal that is pretty okay with you being away from it for longer periods go with a cat. cats are okay by themselves and when they want attention they will sit down on you till they are satisfied, they definitely have attitude ; )

A cat is much easier to have: more independent, washes herself, etc.
A dog is usually more loyal, devoted to you and playful. The cats is too, but only when he or she wants to.

Well.. if you have the time, I say ... BOTH!!!

I do like dogs a little more, but cats are independent and don't need continual attention.

=^..^=

Love em both though!
