People pull in front of my house and stop, and my connection quality goes down.It bugs me becuase I pay 50 bucks a month and they use my connection. I heard you could set it up so they would need a password, I need a step by step.

The step by step instruction will be with your wireless access point. If you do not have the instructions, you could look it up online with the manufacturer (e.g Netgear or Linksys) and model number.
In the instructions look up the parts on how to set up WEP (wireless encryption). It is really simple. Basically you will need to click a box to enable WEP then enter a password. You will need to do this both on the wireless access point and your computer's wireless card configuration.
This basically is like putting a padlock to secure something. It is a good thing to have and will deter people from using you as a "sweet spot".

Good luck - you can't get a step by step without telling us what kind of router you have - INCLUDING model. If you really want a step by step, your READ THE MANUAL. All the information you want is in there.

In short, you want to enable WEP or, if supported, WPA or better still WPA2 - but keep in mind if someone WANTS to get on your wireless, they can hack that pretty quickly - but most people will just drive on to the next house because MOST people are like you - they don't have their wireless secured.

launch you internet explorer,
type in the following
http://192.168.2.1
( this is your router)
look for advanced, or wireless or something like that
you will end up finding WEP
turn it on,
it will ask for a password,
and the next time you log in the laptop, it will prompt.
it is different for each router, so get out your book and see ....
if it asks for a password on the router
it may be 1234, or admin
if you never changed it.
and if thats the case, CHANGE IT!

you need to log into the modem via IE by typing in your ip address. Then you can set up a password. You might be able to do directly through the network connections link but I prefer dialing into the modem.

When you purchase a wireless router, instruction manual comes with it, it tells you security encryption, so that no one else can use it.
