My story is set in England during the year 1799 -- in a small village. The thing is, I don't know what name I should give this village. It's a spooky and dismal place......gray skies, eerie fog, naked trees with gnarled branches...... I was thinking about eiher calling this place either "Grynmott" or "GrayThorne" What do you guys think?? Any better suggestions??

I like Gray Thorne, Grynmott sounds like something out of Harry Potter. Maybe try calling the town Dysmal or something like that, a play on the word you could use to describe the town. Just a thought

name it after an actual village. like bunny village. seriously, there really was a bunny village. hell, there still is a bunny village.

check out bunnyvillage.org.uk.

it's even in england. and the website has all the village's marriage info, births, deaths, baptisms, etc. you could use real people's names and everything from 1799. geez, those people are creepy.

does the name have to fit the atmosphere?? instead of calling it gloomhaven you could call it brightenglen giving it a kind of contrast and explain that something happen to change the atmosphere like the IRS setting their branch office in the village.

I'm an avid reader, and a place called "Gray Thorne" would suck me right in.
