Mail on Aim?

Does anyone know how to stop receiving mail from AIM? Not AOL, b/c I'm not a member of AOL, but I receive email notices when I sign into AIM and the little icon on my taskbar keeps flashing the mail notice. All the mail I receive is junk.

I am using 5.9. After your buddy list window, you will see a toolbar with 5 icons. IM/Chat/Info/Away/setup.
1)click on the setup icon.
2)select preferences.
3) preference window opens. In left hand side panel, click mail
4) details of mail preference opens
5) uncheck display alert window
