For me success means be able to do what I want to do, to be in charge of doing it, and to make good money at it. The money, of course, can purchase the other material items that I would identify as success. But I would not want to do a career, even if it would lead to financial success, if I didn't enjoy it and was not in control of the outcomes. Autonomy and happiness are equally important as material possessions, for me.

The definition of success--To laugh much; to win respect of intelligent persons and the affections of children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one's self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm, and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived--this is to have succeeded

To define any words can not of course be personal; rather, culturally bounded which is not necessarily fixed.
However, to get close and closer to your goal every moment if there is such a goal otherwise will be set one as short term or long term which give certain direction to the life.
Success means happiness which is state of mind. And fortunately that can be reached out of boundary of culture out of any boundary.............................
