In case you're not talking of common house flies, but the ones with the funny lacey wings . . This type come from the sewer. When you find this kind, they usually are in a room with a floor drain or any other little used drain like a laundry sink. If you get this kind of fly, first pour water into all your drains to make sure the trap (a plumbing fitting that stops sewer gas) is filled. Then pour bleach down each drain. Not a lot, just 1/2 cup or so. It will kill them (except the ones already in the house).

They are very bad his year right now. I too have been overrun by them. I believe they started from a bag of potatoes I got when planning to make a big roast. I got some fly/gnat spray at WalMart and have been spraying them daily and am now down to just a few here and there.... seems like they prefer to get on ceilings in the evening and I look around the house until I find a lot of them together and spray them heavily...

does it remind you of the original Exorcist movie....
had the Fly problem ourselves about 7 years ago in the last house---took about a month to finally rid them all-(since i was anti - pesticide...as the majority were always in the Kitchen)-
i just kept killing them w/ a SWATTER..matter of fact it became a SPORT- one nite i killed 67 flies. Since it was during the cooler months @ night they would accumulate on the ceiling (for warmer place) and i could sometimes get 3 or 4 in one(1) "SWAT"

House Flies lay eggs usually in window wells and loose moldings and they just hatch out, but make sure they are flies and not termites they also hatch out when the nest gets to big.

If you have a fireplace, flies love to enter through the flue.
