I would say cow and gate. My children, when babies, were fed this and they seemed very contented. My kids have now just finshed uni where they got top honours. Didnt do them any harm.

I tried sma but moved onto Cow and Gate comfort which is great.

Can I just say though to everyone else that replied telling you breast milk is best that not everyone can breast feed and the question was what is better sma or cow and gate!!

Depends on your baby. After a bit of trial and error I used Cow & Gate with my first and SMA with my second. It just seemed to be what helped them be the most settled. They're both good brands.

I breast-fed my son until he was 3 months and only stopped because he suffered from feeding problems, i tried both SMA and Cow & Gate but found that with both these milks he became serverely constipated. I found that Aptamil was the best milk for him.
In saying that all children are different but my personal favourite is definately Aptamil

i used sma gold with my children and ain't done them no harm. although with my eldest i did move him onto sma white when he was 4 weeks because he still seemed to be hungry, BIG mistake made him really sick coz is was too rich for him. so if you so use sma try to avoid putting him on white even if he seems to still be hungry he would be better off only waiting 2 hours between feeds instead of 4. well that's from my experience anyway.
good luck!!

Cow and Gate, I found SMA too rich, so my daughter couldn't keep the milk down.

I use Farley's and my son has only had one tummy ache and has gained weight perfectly. I started with the first milk, but he then needed the second milk and has been on that for 6 months.
I also chose Farley's because it is nearly £1 cheaper than SMA.

Breast is the best

Even if you dont want to breast feed him for long itme , at least do it for the first week. Because the first week milk wich is called colestrum , is full of immune component and protein , wich helps your baby to be more immune against disease specially gastroenteritis (dirrhea) and other disease.Causes less allergy and helps emotional growth of child as it causes a great emotional connection between mom and baby.
It is also helpful for you , it reduces the risk of cancers like breast , ovary and endometr in mothers , reduces the occerance of osteoprosis and also will prevent high bleeding after delivery. And the last but not least it will help your body to get back to its shape very quickly.

Just there are few things that if you have you cant breast feed :

HIV
Active tuberclosis
and
Hepatitis B ?

other than that go for it.
