Try reading books written for children. They often come with an audio "helper" like a cd or tape. Also, the words are simple so it is a lot easier to focus on things like sentence structure and verb tenses, instead of trying to increase your vocabulary. When you feel comfortable , move your reading level up an age group or two, and keep practicing. Also, watch the news a lot. Not for the information, but because they speak without an identifiable accent usually, and also have good pronunciation skills. Also, newspeople don't use a whole lot of slang terms, and if they do, they will usually tell you what it means.

Read English papers, watch BBC, attend Berlitz School and last but not the least talk to people who speak proper English and ask them to correct you.

Where are you from? In other words, what is your native language. I may be able to help.
Contact me at vancitydissident@rock.com, and we can converse daily. Perhaps I could also learn more about your language.
Where are you located. I don't ask to be creepy, only to figure out how many time-zones separate us.

Try this link - ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language
But still - best is to have a boy friend / girl friend (what ever the case may be) - they will make you learn real quick !!!
