It really depends on whether the flight is international or not.
I wouldn't cancel the ticket or do anything like that until you call the airlines and ask them. They will be able to tell you what to do, and if your ticket needs to be corrected, they can do that as well.
This summer I lead a group on teens on a mission trip to Jamaica and 2 of their names were spelled incorrectly, all that we had to do was call ahead to get it changed!
Good luck!

Keep a copy of the notification with you at all times, just in case. The best thing is to cancel the ticket and have a new one purchased in the correct name. The travel agency should take care of this. If you can not do that, then you need to check with the Carrier ( which air line your using) to see if this will be problem. They can give you the correct answer. But you ID must match your ticket.

I think you should have a copy of this notification with you at the counter, as security measures are extremely strict. I was not allowed to get on my flight because my surname is "giapapa" and the name on the ticket was printed as "yapapa" - which sounds almost the same- but was not the one as in my passport..
Ask your carrier before you go to the airport.
Good luck!

Yes, if you're entering the Netherlands with a non-EU passport and there's something not 100% in order you will definitely have trouble entering the country... Get it fixed before you get on the plane or you'll find yourself on the next plane back from amsterdam... If you have a EU passport it might be easier but I'd still advise you to get it fixed before leaving.

I'm not sure, it shouldn't, but always bring proof. Contact the place where you got the tickets from and ask -- or even have them change at a free of charge (they should -- they made the error in the first place).

Sometimes they can't fit all of your name on the ticket. Maybe they screwed it up. It's happened to me where they left the last letter off of my last name before and didn't give me problems. Again, it depends on the country/countries you are in.
