It is more difficult to walk naturally when your feet hurt if you have been wearing heels all day and been on your feet a lot but it can be managed depending on how bad it is. To be honest, if you wear heels a lot, you are used to it and can get over it, but anyone can be caught out by going too high for the amount of time they had to spend on their feet that day or higher than they are used to wearing.
The place that usually hurts most is the ball of your foot just behind the toes or aching arches. If this has got bad and I still have to walk around in heels, this can lead to bending of knees or throwing your weight back to take the pressure of your toes which messes up a natural walk. Actually I think standing around with tired feet is worse than having to walk with them.
The best thing I can recommend to increase the time you can spend in heels is those gel inserts like Dr Scholl "party feet" etc. These won't stop your feet getting sore but will increase the length of time it takes so you can wear for longer and further. Also, wear a well fitting arch which distributes the weight on your whole foot rather than throwing it on your toes and select shoes with broad toes and plenty of leather to support your foot like pumps, high mules, and boots are good. Toe strap slides and strappy sandals are the worst.

I can't do it either. I can only handle slight discomfort when it comes to shoes. The least comfortable pair of shoes I own are some leather not-too-pointy flats. I don't own any heels. There is also a secret shameful reason that I don't wear heels - I am too unco-ordinated to walk in them! I have serious problems with ankle rolling if I try and wear any heel higher than an inch... oh well, flats are cute and more comfortable anyway ; )

find comfortable shoes for your feet. if that is not an option and fashion is a must, try going to myfootshop.com to figure out some ways to manage your foot pain. use the site to help decide the foot condition you may have (you do not give out a whole lot of info on the location of pain) and the best ways to treat and then maybe you'll be able to wear any shoe you want comfortably. use the source as a direct link to the site. i hope it helps you out. good luck!

There are gel inserts that you can put in the bottom of some high heels that take the pressure off your feet other than that I think its just getting used to them. Whatever you do dont dance in them if your not used to wearing them, you could break an ankle.

I think the best thing is to avoid being in pain altogether. This means you have to buy decent quality shoes. If you must buy high heels, Cole Haan has a good line of shoes with Nike Air technology embedded in them.

Well I have very high arches, unusually high and very small feet (size 5) so high heels help ease the pain in my feet rather than cause it. Sorry, wish I could have been of more help.

Well I do it by being brave and trying to switch my shoes with who ever is with me. I use the cunning line, "They are soooooo coool and comfortable you just have to try them!" If that doesn't work I try to do the most sitting I can and remove the high heels, rub my feet and walk like the stubborn woman I am.

You need to get shoes that are comfortable. Heels do not hurt if you get the right size. I just recently discovered aerosole shoes and they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. They are quite pricey, but worth it. They look and feel great.

Girl! My shoes don't hurt. You sound like you've got the wrong size or the shoes are of cheap quality. It will only pain if you've worn them whole day and have walked A LOT.
