The whole point of community service for students is to get them involved in the community. Have him help at a soup kitchen, volunteer at a rest home or something that will expose him to people that are less fortunate or in need.
Even if he can do computer services for an organization, the schools are looking for individuals who have become involved, and it looks better on a college application.

Yes, actually.
When I was younger, I made a website that made fun of my school principle. It was so bad, that they involved the police. I was ordered to do 50 hours community service, which I could choose what I wanted to do.
I contacted a non-profit organization that helps cancer patients, and told them I would like to make them a new website as my community service. I did, I got my community service done, and felt great having helped out something worthwhile.
If you want your son to do something like this, search online for some organizations, and email them, ask them if they need a new website, or maybe help with it. That is, of course, if your son knows how to build them, ect.

Yes, there's a site called http://answers.yahoo.com - he can volunteer his time to answer people's questions. Other than that, what are his giftings? There's lots you can do to volunteer, such as working with Open Source projects http://sourceforge.net . He can also volunteer to moderate computer forums, etc. Just do a google search on: become a moderator
