I went to college in Marquette on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula. It was a beautiful town that I dream about moving back too someday.....It is hilly like San Francisco, it is a college town that is growing. Shopping gets better everyday there. It still has a downtown area. And lots and lots of snow. It is the convenience of living in a town large enough to have access to most anything but the feel of a small town.

I live in Wyoming, MI (a suburb of Grand Rapids, MI). I love this area. There are homes to purchase that are moderately priced to high priced. Also, nice places to rent in many different price ranges. I live approx 30 minutes from Lake Michigan (near Holland, MI where the Tulip Festival is every year), approx 2 hours from Traverse City (beautiful vacation area), and 2-12 hours from Detroit, MI (near Toronto,Canada). We have decent schools and colleges in this area, several movie theaters, lots of restaurants, bowling alleys, churches, farms where you can pick or purchase already picked fruit and vegetables if you wish, lots of grocery stores, banks, home of the Whitecaps (baseball team), skating rinks, golf courses, parks, several shopping centers, etc. This is not big city but large enough so there are things to do, places to go. I don't know where you are from but we do have cold and snowy winters, beautiful spring and fall weather. If you enjoy a color tour of the fall trees we have gorgeous places to drive to if you wish to spend a week-end get away. Maybe you would like to check out Grand Rapids, MI or Wyoming, MI on the Internet to see how large the city is and maybe it will give you a better idea. Also, if you don't mind living more out in the county you can do so within a 15 to 20 minute drive also.

Never lived there, but I used to live in Chicago and I would drive through Indiana to Warren Dunes beach in Michigan to watch the sun set over the Lake. Warren Dunes is still one of my favorite places on this planet.

I live just outside of Detroit and I guess it's alright, people from up north will complain and call it a 'concrete jungle'. I go to Windsor, Canada alot for fun but, just try to stay away from Detroit and it will be alright
