Remember a little goes a long way. Use a eye shading makeup brush for eyes instead of a sponge applicator. Make sure you prep your eyelid with some foundation or pressed powder so that your eyeshadow doesn't crease from natural oils on your lid. Using your eyeshadow brush, highlight your browbone with a subtle shimmery beige shadow. Next, dust a silver/grey shadow on your lid which is the part of the skin that covers your actual eyeball. Look at yourself in the mirror and tilt your head back as if you are a Queen looking down at her people. This makes it easier to see your crease which is the gap between your eyeball and your browbone. Little by little sweep the tiniest amount of black shadow into the crease of your outer eye, slowly blending down onto the outer lid area so it makes a half-moon kind of shape. When there is no more shadow left on your brush blend upwards towards your browbone for a more smokier blended effect. Finish off with a black liquid eyeliner on top lids and two to three coats of mascara. Curl lashes. Using white eyeliner, line your bottom lids (the moist little strip next to your eyeball) to make your eyes look bigger and brighter. Dot and blend a shimmering beige highlighter in the inner eye area to make your eyes pop out drammatically. You can also email mac artists for your question and they will recommend the exact colors you need

The smoky look is done with shades of grey or charcoal or in blues or berries/purple and violet shades. You can keep your black eye liner and black mascara. For the evening you can darken with deeper blues, black (but not if you have a light skin tone) and grays, coupled with false eyelashes for added drama. Now to get the look follow these steps:
Step 1. Line top and bottom lashes with cranberry, green or black depending on your eye color.
Step 2. Smudge and blend the line so the color smoothly transitions from the lashes.
Step 3. Layer an eye shadow of a contrasting or coordinating shade on top of the liner, blending up and out at the outer corner of the eye. (This part is tricky and if not done right will result in that dirty smudged look you hate). I suggest you look for a liner brush or a Q-tip to help you.
Step 4. Add a second layer of eye shadow in a lighter shade at the crease of the eye and blend up toward the eyebrow. Trend upward with the color and at an angle at the outer corner of your eye, like "Cat eyes" without as much drama.
Step 5. Add your Mascara for the final touch.

What I usually do: I first apply a highlighting color from my eyelid up to my browbone. A very light color, like a bronze or a white, something light. Then along the crease of your eyelid apply a dark color. Depending on if you have a warm or cool skin tone, it can be any color. Say for instance you have blue eyes, go with a gray or a purple color. I like going for the grays...I have blue eyes. I apply a dark, dark gray to the crease. Then to the upper eyelid (below the crease...sorry....i am over explaining), a light gray color or medium color. It makes your eyes pop. Also, DON"T JUST PUT EYELINER ON YOUR LOWER LASHLINE! It is one of the top six no no's for doing eye makeup. For eyeliner: Maybelline's Expertwear in Ebony Black
For mascara:Maybelline's Lash Stylist in Black
When putting on the mascara, kinda do a zig zag motion and pull it towards the corner of your eyes with the wand.

Line your upper and lower lids with black eyeliner, smudge the bottom just a little. Apply a charcoal shadow to the upper lid adding more color to the outer corner then the inner for an fading effect.
