Not sure about the cursor shape, but you might want to check to see if your Shift key is stuck. If you type letters, do they show up in caps?

If this isn't your problem, go to Control Panel, Double click on the Mouse icon. Under the Buttons tab make sure "ClickLock" is not turned on.

To make sure your cursor shape is set to the default, also check the Pointers tab make sure Scheme is set to "Windows Default".

Your question is not really clear, about what you want to do and where! Are you having problems with Excel or Excel Functions are do you want to know if you are having a problem with Word.

Cursor is dependant on settings you place in your computer. The cursor will look like a vertical line in Word and a cross in Excel.
