Mp3 players are a dime a dozen these days, have a look at this list and see if any will satisfy your needs.

Your primary concern seems to be price. While your secondary concern is that it plays in your car. Perhaps as a guide you want a "good" one.

That said i would look or search using the following search phrase:

mp3 player under $100

here are some sites I found with this:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=iPodshuffle

http://shopper-search.cnet.com/search?q=mp3+player+under+%24100&edition=overture-cnet.com.com&nodeid=5&format=customlayout&channel=54&cat=319&allfields=0&k=31309617&ob=-lowPrice9

http://www.overstock.com/?PAGE=CATLIST&PRO_SUB_CAT=2168&PRO_SSUB_CAT=12956&showQuality=0&CAT_SORTBY=1&CAT_SKUPAGE=60

Features to look for:
Make sure it supports at least 3 audio formats, Mp3, WMA, Og Depending on your ear for music, use Mp3 in any case(flexibility) plus conserve space with WMA plus get great sound quality from Og. If you plan to buy music from iTunes only the iPod will work. Apple has a new Shuffle the size of a silver dollar with a clip I am buying in October. If you plan on using Napster or any of those "other" music retailers they all use the WMA DRM version of the WMA fair play system from Microsoft which looks like it may go dead soon so I'd stay away from WMA DRM stuff it's not compatible with many players and will only cause headaches from all the associated hassles.

Most Mp3 players come with a tape cassette interface which connects to the player with a cable and headphone-jack and slips a connected cassette into a tape player. If you don't have a cassette player as most people no longer do you'll be looking for either a radio connection which is doubtful under $100 but keep looking. Or you can do what the car industry has done and hardwire a connector into your car, go see a car stereo shop for details.

Size matters both how large and bulky the player is as much as how much space it has for your music. 128MB SUCKS!!! as you can imagine even 256MB isn't much better. In fact until 1000MB or 1GB Mp3 players are pretty much a joke, okay you can get by on 512MB if all you play are WMA files or you mostly listen to pop or in other words short uncomplicated songs. If you are an audiophile and demand more from your sound equipment go with a 1GB player capacity minimum otherwise it's ideal as it's about 250 songs at great quality or about 400 songs at good enough quality.

Be sure to try it before you buy it if you can even just to see if it's the one you want before getting that great deal online.

Brands I like and why:
Apple - the best industrial design, awesome interface + 88% market share!
Pioneer - great products that last from an old favorite!
Kingston - new to the Mp3 market but worth a look!
Archos - Innovative company offers more bang for the buck!

Brands I don't like and why:
Sony - except for the top of the line sony barely measures up!
Rio - ugly, compromised interface, bad design need I say more?
mixsonic - unknowns like this rarely offer much quality if any!

In closing I'd say just get a new ipod shuffle ($79) and then go to any electronics department store and get the cassette interface. If you have no options to add more to the budget that's about the only way to go. Unless you find another one you try it and love it then who cares your happy!!

You can get a Sandisk 512 mb version for about 60 bucks or a gb version for about 100. I think it is a decent brand.

Mostly your going to be concerned about memory., this will determine how many songs your device will carry, The most memory for your buck. Some Mp3 players give you flecibility in the types of format you record, some have built in Fm radio, and some have a voice reocoder,

Pretty much all MP3 players can be used in the car with a tape deck adapter.

CD gamers i'm no longer waiting for an ipod or mp3 participant yet... perhaps whilst i'm 40 in the event that they do no longer look to be old by then (i'm 29). I even have had my digicam for 3 years and there continues to be in all probability a gaggle of stuff i don't be attentive to the thank you to do with it yet. Texting, making telephone calls, and shooting is notably lots all i will do with my cellular telephone. i do no longer prefer to bypass by all the hardship of downloading songs just to hearken to them each time everywhere without the skipping or scratching.
