Excuse me the observed effect if any... of the European Space Agency satellite SMART-1 when its orbit around the moon decayed and impact was predicted 2 Sep 06.

They wanted to check out the effect of the probe when it struck the surface of the moon. So, they made the probe crash on the surface of the moon. During the crash, instruments were very busy recording the details and those in-turn were transmitted back to Earth.

It didn't. It's a conspiracy, just like NASA's men on the moon. It never happened. lol
