Good question! Don't let anyone tell you it wasn't. Yes, you can love someone, but not be in love with them. I know. I've been there. Even though, I loved the person deeply, it wasn't the kind of love (being in love) with involves. It's hard to explain. Anyone who has ever been in love, should know. The earth moves, the heart skips a beat, etc. Hope this makes sense.

Yes there is a big difference. I think oven we use love when we don not really mean it. Like saying I love shoes. You cannot love something that does not love you back. Being IN LOVE is when you are on a deeper level. You can love your friends and family but are not IN LOVE with them. Being IN LOVE is a different kinda love. When you can see yourself spending the rest of your life with someone.

The difference is that you are able to love someone without being in love with him/her. For instance, you may truly dislike a person but yet love him/her by being charitable to that person. Or, for instance, by doing a good deed to someone who has hurt you. Although, you really cannot even stand that person, you still treat him/her with kindness. Loving a person is either agape (self-sacrificial love) or phileo (brotherly love). Being in love is eros (romantic love).

ABSOLUTELY! I love so many of my friends but am not in love with them. Being in love is that one extra little step that you might not take with someone else.

It may be the case - but don't say that to whoever you're dating. I said those very words to my first girlfriend...boy was she p1sssssssssssssed! Funny in retrospect - but not that day.

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
