It'd be for 2 days (I kinda just asked this, but I wanted to verify that it would be in the car, and we would keep it very warm for him). He would be close to me the whole ride. He would be warm enough, but is it safe for him?

OK so allot of the people who have answered your question so far have more then a few screws loose and have no business giving advice at all...

Its fine..

just make sure the car stays no colder then 70 and your snake wont even no the difference. .. obviously have a plan ready for caging when you get to your destination and I'm sure everything will be fine,,,

lets recap real quick on some of the other responses..

NO a ball python is not going to kill you and the person who said it was is a moron...

NO you are not going to be arrested for having a ball python. nation wide the only problem you could come into with the law is that there is a few states that restrict the keeping of pythons over 8 feet.... a ball python is not one of them so again the person who told you that should also be shot...

Ball pythons do not regulate their own heat so a blanket is going to be just about useless... also you never feed your snake before or during a trip so yes one last time.... just line up that person with the rest of the retarded posters Ive seen so far and end all of there retarded lives...

seriously people don't answer questions you know nothing about..

p.s.

to lizard lover,

she will be out of town for a month so once shes at her destination the snakes will have a cage available... if it was a shorter trip i would totaly agree with you but a month is a decent amount of time....

you made good points though.

Yes, it is completely safe. It would be no different than shipping a snake across the country via FedEx, or the airlines. It may be a little longer of a trip, but it will not hurt the snake at all.

I would put the snake in a snake bag or pillow case. Tie it shut. Then place the bag into either a rubbermaid tote that has some holes melted in it (you can do it with a $5 soddering iron from any hardware store) or into a box with holes cut into the sides. You can put newspaper or bedding on the bottom of the tote/box so that if the snake pees, there is something to soak it up. Tape the box or tote shut so the snake can't escape and you are good to go.

A snake will not need to eat or drink for the trip, so no need to even worry about that. Just open the box or tote(but not the bag) a few times a day just move the air around.

You will not get arrested for driving with the snake nor can a ball python kill anyone.

Have a safe trip.

As an experienced expert in ball pythons I have a ball python that is hibernating. She has been hibernating for 234 days right before I started hibernating her I fed her as much as she would eat. And she is still healthy if you feed your ball python 2 or 3 mice before you leave it will be just fine all the other people answering your question are over reacting. I have 128 ball pythons so I think I know how to take care of them.

One thing to think about is this. In some states a ball python is considered an exotic animal and some states have restrictions on exotic animals. So you may want to call the state police of the states you will be driving through. Some state require a permit for exotic animals.

Also some states have laws concerning what kind of pet carriers are acceptable to use for snakes. It could be considered cruel to an invertebrate reptile which would get your arrested in some states. Some states also have restrictions on transporting what is considered a "dangerous" animal.

Also are you staying at a hotel while on the trip? The hotel may not accept a snake as an acceptable "pet" for your room. And you may not be able to get your money back if thrown out of your room.

So you may want to check first but if you take him with you have fun.

I would not recommend that you take your snake on a two day road trip. There are more things to consider than food, water, and temperatures. Such as snakes hunt by vibration and vibration tends to stress snakes. That is why the do not recommend you play loud music around your snakes. Not that they can hear but rather feel the bass. It is for this reason I would not recommend it. There are going to be vibrations in the car from it moving down the road. I do not care how fancy the car there will be vibrations. I once had to travel for 12 hours with three 8 foot surinam red tail boas. To bring them home after purchase. I bagged them in thier own seperate bag, Placed each bag in a box with shredded newspaper to dampen vibrations. and did all I could when I got them home they still would not eat for a few weeks from the stress of the trip.
It is your snake it is your choice as to what you do. I would not suggest it but that is my opinion based on several years of keeping and breeding snakes. Plus is it fair to the snake to stay in a bag for two days? Bags are really the only safe way to transport snakes. Where will the snake be at night? Now if you were moving and when you got to your new home your snakes old familliar things would be there that might be a different story but not for just a road trip too much vibration I would not risk it.

You would be better off asking a zoo professional. However my guess would be no. I understand that is your choice of a pet but a snake by nature knows no nurture like a dog or cat would. A snake is that of which it is "a snake". If for what ever reason something did not feel right to the snake, it could turn on you or who ever your with and with out a doubt, take your life. Please, listen to no one on this question and talk to someone who is professional before making any decisions.

all pets are best off in a pet carrier that is fastened in by a seat belt- you have to take into consideration the fact he may get loose- maybe you can ask a friend to pet sit

easy to do, no problem, just put your snake in a pillowcase and tie it closed or put it in a duffel bag with a zipper, just be sure to keep it warm
