I'm having my gallbladder removed and I was wondering why I can't wear a small nose stud during the surgery? What harm could it do?

sometimes they ahve to put a tube down your noseto help you brathe, and the tube may catch the backingand you can choke on it. Good luck with the cholecystectomy. Be prepared to vomit for a few days until your stomach gets used to food and bile again.

Because if your heart stops during surgery and the doctor has to shock you, the metal from the nose stud will melt into your flesh. It's a good reason and it's true.

Folks are right on the metal stud and the possibility of it causing a burn should you need to be resuscitated. However, the nail polish..has NOT a thing to do with "messing with machinery". It is discouraged because it makes it difficult to see the nail beds..as in, if they are bluish..the patient is a cyanotic..Lacks oxygen..

also, if they do have to put an NPA (nasopharyngeal airway) in, the nose stud could be a possible source of infection. even if you clean the site daily, bacteria will eventually build up.

It could interfere with medical machinery. So can nail polish.

If you are going in for surgery do what they tell you to do.
