a courtesy clerk generally bags groceries, fetches carts, assists customers with groceries, and cleans up messes as general duties.

grocery clerks, stock the shelves, assist in cashiering occasionally, clean up store messes and do general customer assistance.

as a rule All of the above mentioned tasks are done by any employee of the grocery store.. if the need arises you may be a stocker and find yourself bagging groceries if the store is busy.

Courtesy clerks deal with the customers and ALL their complaints whereas a grocery clerk/stocker keeps the merchandise on the shelves and rarely has to deal with the customers. Go for the stocker job. Its alot easier.

Grocery Clerk's are the ones that scan your items, give you the price, and stocks shelves, all that jolly stuff. A courtesy clerk is the person at the Customer Services desk, that answers peoples questions, directs them to other places, and sometimes checks inventory.

Usually a courtesy clerk is promoted from within. They also have to listen to complaints.
